I think my Fender amp needs new tubes but I’m not sure?
My Fender Blues Deville has been sounding slightly different lately. It has a twangy kindof sound, and some notes seem a little bit crackly, giving it a harsher feel, as compared to the usual creamy blues tone. I’m not sure if it’s the speakers or if it might be the tubes. The volume also seems lower, which is another sign that it may be the tubes. It would help to know how to tell whether one needs new tubes or if a speaker has blown.
Sounds like the output tubes are going.
Unless you are familiar with working on amps, you really should bring it to a pro.
There are serious shock hazards working on amps, even if they’re unplugged!
And you’ll need to re-set the bias settings with the new tubes. If it’s not done right, it’ll effect the sound and you could fry the new tubes prematurely.
Call around and ask what it’ll cost to have a pair of matched output tubes installed and biased. You’re maybe looking at $100, tops.
