What are the ground selector settings for on my 100W Fender Bassman head?
There are three settings to choose from: 1, N, and 2. I use the head with a 4 x 12 cabinet for guitar. Lately I can’t play for more than a few minutes without blowing a fuse, and I thought maybe the ground selector might have something to do with it. I had the amp checked out by an amp repair guy a few months ago and he said it was in great shape. I think it’s from the mid 70’s. Can anyone help with the Ground Selector settings? What should I have it set to, and what are the different settings for? It has a three-pronged plug on the power cable.
Hello Jackal676,
In order to have your amp head fully grounded You need to have a GROUNDED OUTLET !
Here is how to check this :
First when you look at an outlet there are 3 holes, 2 verticals and a round one.
Get yourself a claibrated AC tester and plug the RED wire in the small vertical hole and the BLACK wire plugged in the larger vertical hole, You should get a voltage reading of about 110 to 120 volts (depending on how the power company is set-up), if there is a minus sign (-) appearing, it means that the wires behind the outlet are connected in the reverse position.
Then if its all OK, keep the BLACK wire plugged in the big vertical hole and plug the RED wire in the round hole (ground), You should get the same voltage value, if not, then the outlet is not GROUNDED.
If it is not like that, Your AMP. and Your instruments are NOT grounded.
If You have that problem, call a certified electrician.
